ENTREVISTA KENNY LECKREMO (H.E.A.T) English below

    En la visita que nos hicieron en noviembre los chicos de H.E.A.T, Inigo Ortuñez tuvo la ocasión de entrevistar a Kenny Lockremo. Aqui os dejamos la interesante conversacion de estos dos cracks para ROCKEMOTION.

   

Iñigo Ortúñez (I.O.): Bueno, lo primero bienvenidos de nuevo a España, ya que el año pasado también vinisteis. ¿Cómo estáis tíos?

Kenny Leckremo (K.L.): Estamos genial, terminando un año de gira y no se nos ocurre un mejor sitio para terminarlo, que aquí en España. ¡Siempre es un país fantástico para nosotros!

I.O.: ¡Genial! Los conciertos del año pasado, fueron una pasada…

K.L.: ¡Es cierto! El último tour en España fue algo diferente, porque hacía mucho que H.E.A.T. no tocaba en España, por la pandemia y todo eso. Este año no sabíamos qué esperar, la verdad, pero tío, parece que la gente nunca se cansa de H.E.A.T., seguís viniendo, seguís cantando y ¡os seguís volviendo locos! Me cuesta mucho seguiros el ritmo, jajaja…

I.O.: ¡Cojonudo! ¿Por qué este “Extra Force” de 2023, después del fantástico “Force Majeure” del 2022?

K.L.: Tuvimos una conversación con los tios de la compañía de discos. Todos estuvimos de acuerdo en publicar parte del material que habíamos grabado en las mismas sesiones de “Force Majeure” y al mismo tiempo, quizás publicar alguna canción en directo, básicamente para pasarlo bien. Creo que fue una decisión impulsive, sabes, quisimos hacer el disco para dar la oportunidad de juntar de nuevo a H.E.A.T. y a los fans después de todo lo que había pasado.

Había una transición entre “H.E.A.T. II” y “Force Majeure”, yo estaba cantando parte del material de “H.E.A.T. II”, que lo podéis ver en las versiones en vivo... Era como una manera de acercarnos más a lo que la banda es hoy en día.

I.O.: ¿Tenéis aún la necesidad de escribir nuevas canciones y sacar nuevos discos, o realmente es una excusa para luego volver a salir de gira? Porque las giras son hoy en día vuestra vida.

K.L.: Sí tío, escribir música y tocar música no es algo que sintamos que tenemos que hacer, es simplemente algo que hacemos porque es nuestra pasión. Hacer nueva música es algo que necesitamos para poder sobrevivir.

I.O.: Eso es genial. Algunos de mis amigos fans de H.E.A.T. piensan que hay 2 etapas en vuestra historia, una contigo y otra con Erik. Otra gente entre la que me incluyo, pensamos que también hay 2 etapas, pero una más orientada al AOR y otra un poco más orientada al Hard Rock. ¿Cómo ves tú la evolución de H.E.A.T.?

K.L.: Esa es una pregunta muy difícil, porque yo pienso que H.E.A.T., que el sonido de H.E.A.T. se ubica precisamente en una zona rara entre esos dos mundos. Tienes a veces ese estilo más melódico, AOR y otras veces otro más Hard Rock, casi Heavy Metal. Esto es así porque todos hemos crecido escuchando todos estos estilos de música y nos encantaban. Y pienso que H.E.A.T. es básicamente una expresión de nuestras inspiraciones y de lo que amamos.

Pienso que H.E.A.T. claramente ha pasado por diferentes fases, pero todas las bandas lo hacen, ¿verdad? Lo bonito de H.E.A.T. es que somos capaces de tener ambas caras de la moneda, podemos ser más afilados o más melódicos.

 

I.O.: De hecho, mientras que vuestros 2 discos anteriores eran muy rockeros, las últimas 2 nuevas canciones que habéis publicado, “Freedom” y “Will you be”, realmente parecen que vuelven a esas raíces más melódicas y AOR.

K.L.: ¿Sabes? Nosotros solo escribimos música, la grabamos y nos lo pasamos bien haciéndolo. Solo es música y nosotros solo somos personas. Hacemos música para los fans, pero también para nosotros y no lo vamos a cambiar, seguiremos siendo H.E.A.T. y continuaremos tocando nuestra música sin etiquetas.

I.O.: Bueno, ¿qué planes tenéis para el próximo año? Que éste ya está casi acabado.

K.L.: Vamos a grabar un nuevo disco muy pronto… bueno, no quiero dar demasiadas pistas, ¡pero nos meteremos en el estudio pronto!

I.O.: ¡Eso son buenas noticias!

K.L.: Sí, será fantástico y estamos realmente emocionados. Por supuesto todavía tocaremos algunos conciertos más, si vemos una buena oportunidad para tocar, pero nuestro foco estará puesto en el nuevo disco.

I.O.: ¿Y algún festival veraniego en 2024?

K.L.: Me imagino, siempre está la opción y tendremos que elegir y organizarnos bien, porque la prioridad será el disco. ¡Creo que será un año cojonudo!

I.O.: ¿Qué piensas sobre que una ciudad pequeña como León, de repente se lance a organizar un gran Festival orientado al AOR y al Rock? Las pequeñas ciudades alzan la voz diciendo, “eh, estamos aquí y también nos gusta organizar buenos conciertos”, y así mover un poco el foco de Madrid y Barcelona.

K.L.: Pienso que es realmente fantástico. Creo que el norte de España se lo merece. Es una gran oportunidad para la gente que vive en el norte de España, de juntarse y básicamente disfrutar de este tipo de Rock. Este Rock es muy popular en España, aunque sé que hay otros estilos más populares, pero hay un gran mercado para este tipo de Rock melódico. Es genial ver que hay gente que tiene las pelotas y el valor para buscar los recursos económicos y organizar un Festival así en León.

I.O.: Ya sabes que yo vengo de Burgos, otra ciudad pequeña como León, y el año pasado os llevamos a H.E.A.T. allí y estabais sorprendidos de que hubiéramos vendido tantas entradas, porque lógicamente la banda no conocíais nuestra ciudad. ¡Las ciudades pequeñas también amamos esta música y los conciertos en directo!

K.L.: Una cosa que adoro de España, es que es uno de los países más potentes de Europa para la música en directo, realmente lo pienso. Y tras la pandemia, no habéis frenado y el público sigue hambriento de música. Es fabuloso, y nosotros como banda, somos muy afortunados de tener tanta gente enganchada a nuestra música. Hoy he estado paseando por la ciudad y cada pocos minutos me paraban para hacerse fotos, para que les firmara un autógrafo, sabes… y yo estaba muy emocionado de oírles decir, “hemos venido desde Santiago”, “hemos venido desde Burgos”, “hemos venido de…”.

I.O.: En esta zona de España hace unos años no había casi nada. Pero ahora tenemos este festival, todas las cosas que en Burgos estamos organizando la Asociación Burgos Heavy Metal, además del festival Zurbarán Rock, que es gratuito y el año pasado reunión a 10.000 personas entre los 2 días que duró. También en Zamora, otra ciudad pequeña, organizaron en verano el festival “Z Live” con bandas alucinantes como HELLOWEEN, MICHAEL SCHENKER, AIRBOURNE…

K.L.: ¡Qué pasada! Un montón de gente escucha música Rock con toda la pasión del mundo. Y este tipo de festivales que has mencionado en León, Zamora o Burgos, son un testamento de que la cosa funciona y a la gente le encanta. Es alucinante que haya gente con ganas de invertir su tiempo y su dinero para montar este tipo de Festivales. Porque al final del día, esto es lo que llevará al Rock o al Heavy Metal hacia el futuro. Y lo que introducirá la música Rock a las nuevas generaciones.

I.O.: ¡A mis hijos les hubiera encantado venir hoy!

K.L.: Hicimos un concierto ayer en Madrid, y no estoy bromeando, había muchísima gente joven, chicos… en el concierto, saltando y cantando cada letra de nuestras canciones, ¡estaba flipando! Algo está pasando, aunque mucha gente dice que el Rock N Roll está muerto, pero yo apuesto por lo contrario, que está volviendo y mientras sigamos montando este tipo de eventos, nosotros, H.E.A.T. seguiremos viniendo y diciéndole a la gente que ¡el Rock N Roll está muy vivo!

I.O.: Sabes que tus fans españoles te adoran, así que, ¿un último mensaje para ellos?

K.L.: ¡Por supuesto! Hoy nos pondremos con mucha humildad delante de vosotros, estamos muy honrados de tocar en vuestro precioso país. ¡Y no podremos esperar para volver a España en cualquier otro momento!

I.O.: Y nosotros estaremos allí cuando vengáis. Muchísimas gracias por tu tiempo, Kenny. Estoy seguro de que vais a dar un concierto acojonante y estaremos ahí delante disfrutándolo.

K.L.: ¡Muchísimas gracias!

 

 

INTERVIEW TO KENNY LECKREMO (H.E.A.T.) -NOV 2023

 

 

Iñigo Ortúñez (I.O.): So, well first of all, welcome to Spain again because last year you were here, how are you guys doing?

Kenny Leckremo (K.L.): We are very well, we are at the end of this year touring and we cannot imagine a better place than to finish it here in Spain. It's just always fantastic for us.

I.O.: Great! Last year shows were amazing!

K.L.: Yeah, of course! I think the last tour in Spain was a little bit different because it had been quite a long time since H.E.A.T. played in Spain with the pandemic and everything. This year we didn't really know what to expect but man, people seem to not get enough H.E.A.T., you keep coming, you keep singing and you keep going crazy! I have a hard time keeping up with you guys here, ha ha…

I.O.: That's great! So, why this “Extra Force” in 2023 after the great “Force Majeure” in 2022?

K.L.: It was an open dialogue with the guys in the Record Company. We all kind of agreed on releasing some of the material that we recorded in the same sessions as “Force Majeure” and at the same time maybe get some live tracks out basically for fun. I mean it was kind of like a spur of the moment decision, you know. But we made this album just to have an opportunity to bring H.E.A.T. and the fans closer together after everything that's happened.

That's a transition between going from “H.E.A.T. II” into “Force Majeure”, me singing some of the “H.E.A.T. II” material, which is in the live versions… You know, just bring us all closer to what H.E.A.T.is today.

I.O.: Do you guys feel the need to continue writing new songs or writing new songs and putting new albums is just a way to get back on tour? Because nowadays, touring is your life.

K.L.: Yeah, well, I mean, to write music and to play music, it's not something that we feel like we have to do, it's just something that we do, because it's a passion that we have. So to make music, it's something that we need to do in order to survive.

I.O.: OK, that's great. Some of my friends that love H.E.A.T., they think that there are like two phases in your history. One with you and one with Erik. And other people, including me, think that there are also two phases, but one could be like more AOR -oriented music, and some more like hard rock -oriented music. How do you see the evolution of H.E.A.T.?

K.L.: That's a very difficult question, because I think H.E.A.T., the sound of H.E.A.T., it sits in that weird zone between the two worlds. You have that slightly more melodic AOR -sounding style, and then you have this hard rock, almost metal. But that's because we grew up listening to all of this music, like whether it was heavy metal or AOR, we love it all. And I think H.E.A.T.is just basically an expression of our inspiration and what we love to do.

I think H.E.A.T.definitely has gone through different phases, because I think a band does, right? The beautiful thing about H.E.A.T.is that I think we are able to have these two sides of the coin, we can be more edgy but also much more melodic.

I.O.: In fact while the last 2 albums were very hard-Rockin, the last 2 songs you have released, “Freedom” and “Will you be” really go back to the more AOR melodic sound.

K.L.: You know, we just write music, we record it and we have fun with it. It’s just music and we’re just people. We make music for the people, but also for ourselves and we are not going to change anything, we’re going to be H.E.A.T. and continue playing our music without labels.

I.O.: So what are your plans for next year? As this year is almost finished.

K.L.: We’re going to be recording a new album pretty soon… well, I don’t want to spoil too much, but we’re going into the studio soon!!

I.O.: Oh!! These are really great news!!

K.L.: Yeah! It’s going to be fantastic and we are all really excited about that. Obviously we will still put up some shows if we think we have a good opportunity to play, but our focus will be on the new album.

I.O.: Some Summer Festivals in 2024?

K.L.: I guess so… they are always there and we just have to choose and organize ourselves, as we want to prioritize the album now. I think it’s going to be an awesome year!

I.O.: What do you think about a small city as Leon, suddenly organizing this nice Festival oriented to Hard Rock and AOR? Small cities are saying “hey, we’re here and we also like to organize nice shows”, so move the focus a bit from Madrid and Barcelona.

K.L.: I think it’s absolutely fantastic! I think the north of Spain deserves this. It’s a great opportunity for the people who live on the north of Spain to come together and basically enjoy this kind of rock. This rock it’s very popular in Spain, although I know there are some stronger pockets, but there is a huge market for all kinds of melodic rock. It’s fantastic to see there are people who has the balls and the courage to look for the financial capacity and organize this kind of Festival in León!

I.O.: You know I’m coming from Burgos, which is also a small city as León, and last year we brought H.E.A.T. to Burgos and you were surprised that we sold so many tickets, as obviously the band did not know the city. Small cities also loves this music and live shows!!

K.L.: One thing I love from Spain is that it’s one of the strongest places for live music in Europe, I really think so. And after the Pandemic, it has not slowed you down, people are still hungry for music. It’s fantastic and we, as a band, we’re really fortunate to have here so many people who are engaged with our music. Today I’ve been walking around in the city and I’ve been stopped every few minutes for taking pictures, writing autographs, you know… and I was so excited to hear them saying “I come from Santiago”, “I come from Burgos”, “I come from…”.

I.O.: In this region of Spain some years ago there was really nothing. But now we have this Festival, all the things we have organized in Burgos with the Asociación Burgos Heavy Metal, plus the “Zurbaran Rock Festival”, which is free and last year gathered like 10.000 people in 2 days. Also in Zamora, rather small city, they organized last summer “Z Live Festival” with amazing bands like HELLOWEEN, MICHAEL SCHENKER, AIRBOURNE…

K.L.: That’s great! A lot of people listen to rock music with all the passion of the world. And these kind of festivals you mentioned in León, Zamora, Burgos… is a testament that this is working and people are loving this. It’s incredible there are people willing to invest their time and money to put these kind of Festivals together. Because ultimately, this is what is going to bring rock or heavy metal, into the future. And also introduce rock music to younger generations.

I.O.: I’m sure my kids would have loved to be here today!

K.L.: We did a show yesterday in Madrid and I’m not kidding, so many young people, kids… in the show, jumping and singing every word of the songs, I was completely blown away! There’s something happening, lot’s of people are saying “Rock N Roll is dead”, but I bet it’s different, it’s definitely coming back and as long as we continue to put up these shows, we H.E.A.T. will continue to come and say to people that Rock N Roll is very much alive!

I.O.: You know well that Spanish fans loves you, so any last message for them?

K.L.: Of course! We stand humble in front of you with this task, we are honored to be playing in your beautiful country. And we cannot wait to come back to Spain, any time we can.

I.O.: And we will be there when you come… Thank you so much for your time Kenny. I’m sure you will put up a terrific show and we will be in front line enjoying it.
